Rwanda’s APR volleyball clubs (men and women) will represent the country at this year’s Nyerere International Championship slated for October 10 to 14 in Arusha, Tanzania.
Rwanda will join Burundi, Uganda, and Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) at the regional tournament.
The annual tournament is held in commemoration of the death of the country’s founding father Mwalimu Julius Nyerere.
Elie Mutabazi, the head coach of APR men’s volleyball club, told Times Sport that "We have started training, because we want to be ready for the Nyerere International Championship and we want to prepare the team well.”
APR women's volleyball last participated in this tournament in 2019 and was defeated by Kenya's Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) volleyball club in the finals.
Meanwhile, in the men’s category, APR emerged winners of the tournament in 2017, after defeating Kenya’s Jeshi la Kulinda Taifa.
Both teams are expected to leave the country on Saturday, October 8.
