After collecting six points from their last two games, defending champions Rayon Sports face archrivals Police FC today looking for another three points to close in on leaders APR.

The Blues will be up against Albert Joel Mphande’s side this afternoon at Kigali Stadium in a rescheduled match-day 20 fixture.

Going into today’s tie, Rayon Sports are in third place of the 16-team table, with 43 points, seven behind APR and five behind second-placed AS Kigali.

However, APR and AS Kigali have played two games more.

After 23 league games, Police are in fifth place with 39 points, and a win against the defending champions would take them into fourth with 42 points.

"This is a very important game for us, a must-win fixture if we are to remain in the title race,” Rayon Sports head coach Ivan Minneart told Times Sport after yesterday’s training session.

The Belgian also revealed that two players; forward Nova Bayama and centre-back Faustin Usengimana are out of today’s encounter, both having suffered minor injuries.

Since Mphande took over Police FC replacing Innocent Seninga in April, they are yet to lose a match.

He saw his side beat Miroplast 3-0 in his first game in charge, then Gicumbi 1-0, Espoir 3-0 and most recently Sunrise 1-0.

Speaking to Saturday Sport on Friday, the Zambian tactician said: "It’s going to be just another league game for us, we are not so much focused on our opponents but rather on our game plan. If we execute it well, we stand a good chance.”

In their last nine meetings, Rayon Sports have won four times against Police’s two wins, with both sides playing draws on three occasions.

In another match due today, struggling Miroplast host Mukura at Mironko grounds in Gikondo. Mukura are in the 11th position with 25 points while relegation-threatened Miroplast are rock bottom with 17 points from 24 games..
