Six Rwandan films have been nominated for the 21st edition of Zanzibar International Film Festival (ZIFF) due July 7-15.
The films are; Kennedy Mazimpaka’s ‘Seburikoko’, a weekly TV series (Web Series category), as well as Alexander Sibomana’s ‘Carver’, Clementine Dusabejambo’s ‘Icyasha’, Yuhi Amuli’s ‘The Island’ and Samuel Ishimwe Karemangingo’s ‘Imfura’, all nominated under the Short Films category, while Moise Ganza’s ‘Sukut’ was nominated in the Film School category.
The official selection for the festival has seen over 180 films nominated for seven categories namely; Feature Fictions, Documentaries, Swahili Movies, TV and Web Series, Short Films, Film School (High School movies) and African Animations.
"The festival is designed to reward excellence in short film production and to encourage the production of new short films, including short documentaries,” said ZIFF Assistant Film Director International, Fabrizio Colombo.
Films were submitted based on the theme – this year’s is ‘Season of Visions’ – and entered into various categories and competitions. The final night is an awards night, where the winning films are recognised and celebrated.
This year’s festival is expected to attract a number of filmmakers from across the world.
The weeklong festival schedule will include film screenings, live music, dance, performance, exhibitions, workshops, and cultural tours across several venues.
ZIFF is East Africa’s largest film, music and arts festival, bringing new talents together from all over the world.
The annual festival is a big occasion for filmmakers to brainstorm and share experiences during workshop sessions on how the industry can grow bigger on not only the continental but also on the global scene.
