Over 30 people killed in thunderstorms in India - reports

​At least 33 people were killed on Monday as a result of thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by heavy rains and strong wind in the Indian states of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand, Agencies reported Tuesday.

The number of those killed in Uttar Pradesh reached nine, while in the states of Bihar and Jharkhand each the disaster claimed lives of 12 people, Agencies reported.

According to the predictions of the Indian Meterological Department, the thunderstorms will continue on Tuesday in many districts of the Uttar Pradesh state, with the wind speed reaching 50-70 kilometers per hour (31-43 miles per hour).

India has often been hit by thunderstorms and rains, which resulted in numerous casualties. India has recently faced the most lethal thunderstorms in six years, with nearly 130 people having been killed on May 2.​
