Mukura Victory Sports head coach Francis Haringingo has ripped into his strikers, blaming them for their shock 2-0 home defeat to Espoir on Sunday. 

The Burundian was left fuming at his sloppy strikers’ failure to score from a series of clear goal opportunities.

The hosts fell behind as early as in the second minute when Ugandan forward Fred Kyambadde handed the visitors the lead. 

The Rusizi-based side doubled the lead in the 73rd minute from Youssuf Niyitanga.

The hosts kept pressuring and creating chance after chance but wasteful with Kevin Hakizimana, Ibrahim Nshimiyimana, Christophe Ndayishimiye, Hussein Cyiza and Flank Lomami all failing to find the back of the net.

"It is unfortunate that we conceded twice but we had many more chances to score but the strikers were not sharp enough to take them. Since Rashid (Mutebi) got injured, we have been struggling upfront,” Haringingo said after the game.

Mukura’s leading scorer Mutebi sustained an ankle injury three weeks and his side has not managed to win a league game since.

The Ugandan striker has scored seven goals for the Huye-based side this season.

"It is always bad to lose points week after week, something needs to change. We have to regroup and plan better for the next games. Winning tough games and losing those that you’re not supposed to lose shows how inconsistent we are. We can absolutely do better,” Haringingo added. 

This was the 19th league game which Mukura have failed to win this season, having only managed four victories. They have lost six league matches and registered 13 draws respectively.

After 23 rounds of matches, Mukura are in the eleventh place with 25 points. APR top the table with 52 points, four ahead of second-placed AS Kigali.

SC Kiyovu are in third with 41 points, while defending champions Rayon Sports are in fourth with 40 points.
