As population grows in Rwanda and does not slow down, the country, but more tragically the people, are shooting ourselves in the foot. Rwanda’s population can either be a ruin or a resource. It is up to each of us, not just as citizens but as individuals, to make the choice between lateral life and forward velocity.

Is there something higher, greater to live for?

This alone is at the core of the state of education in Rwanda today. For all of the side-issues being dealt with—accreditation, Genocide ideology or language clashes—school dropout rates are both symptoms and sources.

Laws alone will not provide people with the inspiration to succeed and strive. But the past should. Even today, looking towards the streets of Kigali city and outward throughout the country, the display of those who gave up litters the sight.

The government can provide opportunity, but it cannot always provide refuge from personal mistakes for all. Dropping out of a school is a serious one.

Congo should restrain its deadly visitors

It is time for Rwanda to be staunchly defensive. The stability of the country is a Sea of Tranquility in a region as cratered as the moon.

The power of the patient is not one that should be taken lightly. Serious pro-active response may be too early and be seen by others as using an incident as a pretext.

Rwanda must take the appropriate breaths to counter any further blatant trespass by FDLR murderers without it becoming a diplomatic incident with the Democratic Republic of Congo.

If we are congratulating ourselves that none has died from the Rubavu cross-border shootings this time, we must be so sure of our watch henceforth, that any further brazen attempts are so severely punished as to regain our inviolability mantle.

The FDLR must never be allowed even a shadow of doubt as to their hopelessness.
