KAMPALA - Burundi moved closer to qualification for the semi-final of the on-going Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup when they beat defending champions Sudan 1-0 at Bugembe Stadium, Jinja last evening.

The Burundians who have promised to win the trophy this time round dominated proceedings from the start and scored in the 6th minute with a well taken Eric Gatoto shot.

Claude Nahimana, who has already netted three goals for the Burundians in the event had a wonderful game as he caused the Sudan midfield and defence a lot of trouble.

"I am happy that we have beaten the defending champions,” said Nahimana who also vowed to win the last group game against Kenya on Thursday.

Burundi coach Gilbert Kanyenkore said his team is playing according to instructions. "We are well motivated and playing good football. Whichever team that will stop us must triple its effort,” Kanyenkore said.

The win pushed Burundi to top of the table with seven points, while Kenya who hammered Djibouti 5-1 in an earlier match moved to second place with five points with a better goal aggregate against Zambia who slipped to third place.

Kenya who had their coach Francis Kimanzi sent to the stands scored through Joseph Shikoti, George Owino and Francis Ouma who netted a hat-trick, while Djibouti got their consolation goal through Daher Ahmed.

Meanwhile, Cecafa have moved all remaining Group B games to Nakivubo Stadium in Kampala. "The explosive games; Sudan v Zambia and Burundi v Kenya have all been moved to Kampala on Thursday,” said Cecafa Secretary General Nicholas Musonye.
