Farmer’s circuit: Kayonza-Muhanga 97.5km

Rwanda Cycling Federation, Ferwacy, has changed the itinerary of the Farmers’ Circuit, second race of the 4th Rwanda Cycling Cup.

Dubbed Farmer’s circuit, this year’s edition was initially set to start from Kayonza in the Eastern Province and end in Gicumbi in the Northern Province, however the route has been changed and will now start from Kayonza through Kigali and end in Muhanga in the southern province.

"The recent heavy downpour in the country has destroyed some roads and specifically for this road that we were supposed to use in Gicumbi, it was heavily destroyed. Following the inspection, a decision has been taken to change the route to account for the safety of the riders.” Jacques Furaha, the Head of Public Relations at Ferwacy told Times Sport on Thursday.

Farmers’ circuit is one of the 11 races that make up the Rwanda Cycling Cup, which also includes; Memorial Lambert Byemayire, the first race on the calendar in March followed by the Farmers’ Circuit that is held in May.

Race to Remember is held in June. The National Championships; Individual Time Trial (ITT) and Road Race are also held in June.

Others are; Race for Culture and Tour du Rwanda warm-up races that are held in July, Kivu Race and Karongi Challenge in October while the Central Challenge takes place in November. The final race of the domestic cycling season is held in December – in Kigali.

The races attract all local cycling clubs in men, women and junior categories. In March, fast rising Club Benediction’s Didier Munyaneza won memorial Lambert BNyemayire (Kigali-Huye), covering a distance of 158km in 4 hours, 14 minutes and 38 seconds.
