IPRC-Kigali host preliminaries for Unified Sports finals

Special Olympics Rwanda has organized qualifiers for Unified Sports national finals – scheduled for July 20-22 in Kigali.

The final round of preliminaries started on Wednesday morning at IPRC- Kigali stadium while the second window will take place on May 23.

The one-day qualifiers today have attracted participants from six districts; Nyarugenge, Kicukiro, Gasabo, Kirehe, Gisagara and Rulindo.

Special Olympics in Rwanda, designed for people with intellectual disabilities, hold year-round training and competitions in different parts of the country. On Wednesday, athletes will be competing in football and athletics.

While talking to Times Sports on Tuesday, Sheilla Ndegeya, the Head of Special Olympic Rwanda urged the public to join the movement of improving the lives of people with intellectual disabilities through sports.

In 2015, the organization sent 3 athletes to the World Summer Games in Los Angeles, United States, and according to the federation, the country will be represented by a total 50 athletes at the 2019 the Abu Dhabi World Special Olympic.
