KAMPALA - Rwanda Coach Tucak Branko was full of smiles last evening at Nakivubo stadium after his team recovered to pick a deserved 3-0 victory against Somalia as the Cecafa Senior Challenge entered Day 6.

After falling 4-0 to arch-rivals Uganda in the opening game, the Amavubi Stars turned on the style with good inter-passing and good defensive mentality to shut out the loud-mouthed Somalians who had promised to win.

Enterprising Eric Gasana proved the star on the wet surface as the first half was played under a heavy gown pour. Gasana netted a brace in the 14th minute and with seven minutes to the end of first half.

The Somalian defence led by Sidi Abdul and Mohamed Ali had a lot of trouble taking care of the goal hungry attack of Jean Lomami, Kamana Bokota and Gasana.

Kamana Bokota who should have bagged a hat-trick got his name on the score sheet in the 64th minute after some good work by Elisa Ntaganda on the left flank.

"We are happy with this win because it has motivated us more,” said skipper Ismael Nshutinamagara after the game.

Amavubi’s technical bench could even afford to try the fresh legs of Papy Nkunda and Donatien Tuyisenge later in the second half to have a fell of real battle that lies ahead.

Branko said his boys had responded well especially after losing the first game.” I want to thank my team for showing a positive attitude.

It is good we are back in the tournament and I promise to beat Tanzania and Zanzibar to make it to the semi-finals,” said a confident Branko after the game.

Somalia’s coach/manager Mohamed Abdi Farah told Times Sport that his team completely failed to play on the wet surface.

"Rwanda was the better side and won the game,” said a resigned Farah who had boosted of defeating Rwanda two days ago.

Amavubi’s medical team will have to assess Jean Bosco Uwacu who got injured in the first half, though the good news is the return of first choice goalkeeper Jean Claude Ndoli who managed to seat on the bench as a substitute.
