Following the controversial eight day closure of Juru Park, a famous hangout located in Kicukiro district, it was given the nod by the Ministry of Health on Christmas Eve to resume business.

The closure took place on December 16 last year for lack of hygiene and certain facilities that posed a health threat to customers.

A source from the ministry who preferred anonymity said that the decision had been prompted by a bad smell from rotten food stuff.

"They had kept meat without properly preserving it which caused it to rot and spew the bad smell,” the source explained. Early last year, the ministry issued directives to close down all restaurants and hotels with poor hygiene facilities.

Restaurants countrywide were affected but the biggest pinch was felt in Butare town and Kicukiro district where many remain closed until they meet the necessary standards.

Anatole Musabyimana, the Manager of Juru Park, expressed gratitude for having been allowed to resume business after fulfilling the required conditions.
