If one of your New Year’s resolutions is to give yourself a new look and other forms of beautifications, then why not think of new hairstyles. Update your looks by applying flattering touchy colours to your hair, and there you will be assured to standout.

You may wonder which styles women and men are looking for this year. It is all about the latest hairstyles. Some women want bold, bright chunky streaks, while others may prefer natural-looking highlights or lowlights. And then, there are the daring few who choose to go from brown to brilliant hues of red or full blonde.

Jean Marie, a saloonist at T&P Saloon, Nyamirambo says some of the hottest dyes requested by their clients include: Orange blast, gold, with a few clients going in for chocolate tint.

In 2009, we probably have to admit that there will be lots of hairstyles; the celebrity magazines will introduce you to different hairstyles for women, men, including hair plaiting and dreads, which are common today.

Hairstyles take some work and time of course, but if spending time on your hair is not your thing, do not worry, because sooner or later you will be taken unawares.

As usual, there is something to suit everyone, whether you have long hair, short hair, are male or female, curly or straight. Hair accessories add something special to every style this year, so go for something sparkly, it will update your style with very little effort. Maintaining your hair long will also call for a task on how much, or how little you will be able to style your hair.

Betty Kabanyana, 28, says if one wants to be stylish, then in 2009 the way to go is to use sparkly colours to enhance the hairstyle. Well treated hair looks great, but you should choose the best treatments to give it the modern 2009 look.

If you do not have any idea about hairstyles, Claude Habimana, aka Shaggy, a saloonist at Ne-Yo Saloon, in Remera says take a look around the street, parties, Church services, or in any ceremony gathering and you will be able to identify different, and latest hairstyles.

‘After discovering them, take a picture of your neck and face and figure out the style that works for you’, Habimana says, adding that, ‘This technique is going to give you a good idea as to what you will be getting yourself into’.

Much as hairstyles are important on improving on one’s looks, colours are also crucial because they create a difference in the way your face looks. So, one should be more considerate when choosing the colours to put in the hair.

‘Most of our clients want to be trendsetters in 2009. Some of them come in asking for our innovative methodology for colour application: triple dimension and block colouring, like fringe fashion, rocket red, star burst and blonde dye’, says Christine Umuhoza, at Classy Saloon.

Today, there are plenty of hairstyles and the problem is no longer which style, but the choice. The latest and most fashionable one is the short hair.

Many women have resorted to the style because they believe that it’s easy to maintain and styling of course, but others believe that it helps them look young.

‘You may think short hair is easy to maintain as many claim, but if not maintained well, it looks terrible on a head’, says Pamela Umurerwa.

Practically short hair is easy to style, and it looks trendier on the head than the longer hair which cannot be styled well. If you are growing short hair and are at that mid length stage, there are plenty of options to look stylish in 2009.

Among the latest hairstyles, are the bob haircut, which is still popular with female celebrities, the likes of Victoria Beckham, Rihanna and many others. So whatever type of hair you have, fine or course, there is a bob out there for you. Add some waves to have healthy and shining hair.

Jackson Bango, a professional saloonist says age and size are major elements when one is considering hairstyle. Making hairstyle changes that are major could be risky because in many times, the trendy hairstyles become old in no time.

If you are elderly and fat, then the short look will add a bit of the trendy element to your hair. And for young and slim women, you can easily add some attitude and create your own hairstyles. And trust us, long hair is an ideal for you.

However, you ought to be careful, because long hair can look lifeless, but you can play around with some art and create different styles each day.

After knowing how to deal with your hair, also think of dressing trendy for extra enhancement; shop accessories and trendy outfits will supplement your hairstyle.
