SKOL BREWERY LTD, General Manager Ivan Wulffaert, has promised to reward Rayon Sports players when they reach in the quarterfinal of the 2018 CAF Confederation Cup. General Manager Ivan Wulffaert said after hosting the team on Saturday evening during the dinner at Zonve stadium where rayon Sports trained every day.
Ivan Wulffaert hosted the team and thanked them for reaching in the group stages of the CAF Confederation cup and he promised that they are set to be rewarded with cash prizes after a successful campaign but he didn’t mention the prizes.
"It is important for our team to reach at this stage so we will do something if they reach at the quarterfinals which is secret and it is good for us as sponsors to be part of Rayon because we are associating with a club that is very popular. Associating with them definitely helped us to penetrate the ever growing market,” German Ivan Wulffaert added.
"It is a good move from our sponsor and I’m sure it will go down well with the players. The cash incentives should motivate those (players) ahead of the new season,” said the team Captain Eric Bakame Ndayishimiye noted.
Rayon Sports secretary general, Bernard ‘King’ Itangishaka said that the club is now in a far better position financially and hope that to start improving the players’ welfare, which would boost their morale and in turn raise the winning mentality.
Last year, Rayon Sports and Skol renewed the contract with the eight-time league champions until 2022. Skol will give Rayon Sports Rwf66m per year which is Rwf462m in seven years.
Last year, Skol built the training grounds of Rayon Sports which team used to train Nzove ground in Nyarugenge District.
The club won the 2016 Peace Cup title and 2016/17 Azam Rwanda Premier League title.
After qualifying for the group stages, Rayon Sports are set to get Rwf230m, if they manage to finish third in their group, they will get an additional Rwf230m while the top two teams that will qualify for the quarterfinals will scoop Rfw295m. Semifinalists are given Rwf379m while the runners up get Rwf526m and the winner takes one billion.
Rayon Sports are the first Rwandan club to progress to any CAF club competition group stage.
The teams that have qualified for the group stages are USM Alger, Al Hilal, Vita Club, Enyimba, ASEC Mimosas, Young Africans, CARA Brazzaville, WAC Casablanca, Al-Masry, Aduana Stars, Gor Mahia, Djoliba, Raja Casablanca, RS Berkane, UD Songo, and Rayon Sports.
