The Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco in Kigali over the weekend provided 7.5 tonnes of cement toward the construction of 148 houses for vulnerable residents of Nduba Sector in Gasabo District.
The support was delivered under the framework of Umuganda, a monthly community exercise designed to help support the country’s growth agenda.
During the handover event, held in Gasura Cell, Nduba, the Moroccan envoy to Rwanda, Amb. Youssef Imani, was joined by the State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and East African Community Affairs, Olivier Nduhungirehe, to lay the foundation for construction works.
The housing units are part of 281 houses that the Government plans to put up for needy households in the sector, located on the outskirts of the City of Kigali.
"I pay tribute to President Kagame for his dedication to Rwanda’s development and for actively strengthening community work,” said Amb. Imani. "I thank staff of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco and the entire Moroccan community in Kigali who joined us today in building the foundation of the houses. In the future, I remain ready to participate in these efforts that unite the population for lasting solidarity.”
Amb. Nduhungirehe said: "The concept of community work (Umuganda) is no longer just Rwandan. It is also in other African countries and this illustrates how Africans share a lot that can help us enhance African solidarity.”
He urged the youth to embrace technical and vocational education and training courses to stand a better chance of creating own jobs and help develop the country.
