For the fourth time, and the third time in a row, Rwandan artiste and DJ Eric Kirenga Karengera, commonly known by stage name Eric Soul, will take part in the 7th edition of DOADOA slated from May 9-12th at Uganda Museum, Kampala.
Known as the East African Performing Arts Market 2018, the Doadoa provides a platform for professional networking and joint learning, bringing together various stakeholders and link people, organizations, businesses, knowledge and technology with a view to create demand and develop a market for the performing arts.
DOAODOA is seen as a platform for unlocking the potential of the East African creative industry, making it an important factor for economic, social and cultural development throughout the region.
Eric Soul, the founder of Afrogroov, said DOAODOA always helps him create new friends in the industry players across Africa and is convinced it has become a marketing channel of Rwanda music to different parts of the region and Africa in general.
"As a creative operator, it is part of our work, duties and responsibilities to be pro active in participating in such events. DOAODOA is a cultural and performing art market for professionals that offers opportunities to expand network, meet stakeholders and fellow artists to initiate ideas/projects,”
"This is all in the view of supporting regional inclusion, raise awareness of Rwandan music industry and our culture besides promoting the intra Africa mobility of artists on the continent and beyond, he told The New Times.
He attended last year’s edition alongside Inanga traditional instrumentalist Deo Munyakazi, Trezzor Band and Angel Mutoni.
Following the invitation, Eric Soul said he still has plenty to learn from the festival to improve his arts career, expand music network, meet more artistes and an opportunity for him showcase his art skills to numerous music brains which in return can generate more music opportunities, concert offers, tours and endorsement deals in the future.
DOAODOA was initiated by Bayimba International Festival of the Arts in Uganda in partnership with Sauti za Busara festival in Zanzibar, Sawa Sawa Festival in Kenya, KigaliUp in Rwanda, Caravan Records in Tanzania, Ketebul Music andKenya Music Week in Kenya, and Selam Music and Jazzamba in Ethiopia.
This year’s edition will feature a series of music and entertainment sessions. Other highlights of DOAODOA include mentorship opportunities, seminars and workshops conducted by regional and international experts.
