After 4-1 win over Club Africain
If there is anything that Amavubi Stars need to learn from their junior counterparts ‘Junior Wasps’, then it is to score goals.
The U-20 side posted their fourth consecutive win in their build up to next year’s African Youth Championship after Monday’s emphatic 4-1 victory over Tunisia’s Club Africain, one of the most decorated clubs in Tunisia’s premier league.
Rwanda’s goals came in from APR’s Haruna Niyonzima, Yussuf Ndayishimiye while Elias Uzamukunda scored a brace. This means that Ndayishimiye, Uzamukunda and Ernest Kwizera are now the team’s leading goal scorers with two goals each.
The victory is Rwanda’s fourth after previous wins over La Marsa (1-0), ES Beni-Khalled (1-0) and Le Bizerte (2-1).
The youngsters will now play Tunisia’s Etoile du Sahel and Esperance before proceeding to Egypt for two trial games against Egypt’s U-20 side.
The African Youth Championships scheduled to run from January 18-February 1, 2009 will attract eight teams.
Rwanda is drawn in Group A alongside Mali, Cameroon and Ghana while Group B is made up of Nigeria, Ivory Coast, South Africa and Egypt.
The top four sides in the championship will earn automatic slots at the 2009 Under-20 World Cup in Egypt. However, should Egypt reach the last four in Rwanda, then the 5th placed team automatically qualifies for the World Cup.
Rwanda opens her campaign on January 18 against Mali at Amahoro stadium.
