Renowned American actress, filmmaker, and TV producer, Ava Marie DuVernay, known for her work in cinema, disclosed her top three favorite places on the African continent. And Rwanda made the cut.
Speaking at a media event hosted at The Africa Centre while promoting her latest film, "Origin," Ava expressed her admiration for Rwanda, describing it as "a source of inspiration and hope.” She also talked about the country's lush greenery and vibrant landscape; she had "a beautiful experience” during her visits.
She also mentioned Mali and Senegal as destinations close to her heart. Mali holds a special place for Ava due to her familial connection, as her brother-in-law hails from the West African nation. Senegal, on the other hand, holds sentimental value as it was the first African country she ever visited.
Ava DuVernay's accolades in the entertainment industry include a Primetime Emmy Award, two NAACP Image Awards, a BAFTA Film Award, and a BAFTA TV Award. Additionally, she has been nominated for an Academy Award and a Golden Globe.

The film explores connections between historical events in America, India, and Germany, shedding light on the shared struggles of marginalized communities worldwide.
In 2019, DuVernay directed "When They See Us," a critically acclaimed miniseries for Netflix. The series, based on the infamous Central Park jogger case, examines the wrongful conviction of five Black and Latino male suspects and the impact on their lives and families.
