Rwanda Handball Federation (Ferwahand) has appointed Anaclet Bagirishya as the head coach of the national handball Under-20. He replaces Antoine Ntabanganyimana.

Jean-Paul Ngarambe, Ferwahand’s secretary-general, confirmed the development to Times Sport yesterday.

Bagirishya, who also coaches APR handball club, will be assisted by Kigoma handball club trainer Silvestre Mudaharishema, as the national team prepares for the forthcoming 2018 Challenge Trophy, slated for May 14-20 in Kampala.

Ngarambe told Times Sport that the new coach is expected to release a provisional squad next week, adding that Bagirishya was chosen to lead the national team because of his commitment and experience.

Rwanda emerged champions of the 2016 edition after winning all their matches to finish the only unbeaten side out of seven countries in the contest. The youthful Rwandan side overcame hosts Uganda in a tightly contested encounter.

The International Handball Federation (IHF) has invited all regional countries, including Ethiopia, Sudan, Rwanda, Eritrea, Kenya, South Sudan, Tanzania, Burundi, Somalia and Djibouti to participate in Challenge Trophy 2018.
