Prime Minister Edouard Ngirente on Friday officiated at the swearing in ceremony of three military judges of the Military High Court and one military prosecutor, whom he urged to strive for speedy delivery of justice.

Major Cyrille Sibomana, Major Phanuel Kalibu and Captain Frederic Kayijuka were sworn in as judges of the Military High Court, whereas Lieutenant Triphonie Umuhire was sworn in as military prosecutor.

In his remarks during the event held at his office in Kimihurura, premier Ngirente called for continuous capacity building programmes saying that this job requires constant training in the law so as to ably deal with the tricks used by criminals to get away with felonies.

"Embrace technology as you’re known for and speed up cases at you tables. Delays to try cases cause harm on the Rwandan society and the ones involved in general. Government will keep providing necessary means for a successful work in military courts,” said Ngirente.

He also reminded them that the oath they had taken is a pact that will bind them with their country and the Head of State who entrusted them with the roles.

"The judgments you will make will have impact on people’s lives and their families. We hope you will make them with wisdom, within the realms of the rule of law and truth because that is what the country is looking out from you,” he added.

Judge Sibomana told The New Times that he is aware of the job at hand, adding that "As we are trained in law and we are used to it, we will strive to deal with all hitches in military courts. Speeding up court cases also is a major task that we hope to carry out successfully as stated the prime minister.”

Military prosecutor Lt. Triphonie Umuhire says that she was hopeful her contribution will add value to the justice sector, adding that she starts her new job with an open mind, eager to learn.

The judges of the Military High Court were approved by the extraordinary cabinet meeting held on January 19, 2018.
