AS Kigali forward Jean-Claude Ndarusanze is keen on winning the Azam Rwanda Premier League golden boot in his debut season. The season’s second half gets underway today.

The Burundian signed for City of Kigali-backed side in September from Lydia Ludic Académic of Burundi and has so far netted seven goals.

However, he faces competition from Police striker Isaie Songa, who has scored six goals, while his striking partner Emmanuel Ngama is on five goals. Marines striker Arafat Bahame, SC Kiyovu skipper Fabrice Kakule, Kirehe’s Jean-Paul Uwimbabazi, Mukura’s Rashid Mutebi and Musanze’s Wayi Yeka all have five goals each. 

"My target is to be the league’s top scorer in my first season. It is not an easy target and there is a lot of competition but I am confident of pulling it off,” Ndarusanze said adding that although he is keen on winning the golden boot, he would happily swap it for the league title.

The winner of the golden boot gets a cash prize of Rwf500,000. Former Police striker Danny Usengimana, who now plays for Singida United of Tanzania, won the award for the last two consecutive seasons.

Last season, he scored 19 goals in 30 league matches, one more goal than he managed in the 2015/16 season.

Today, Espoir host Gicumbi at Kamarampaka Stadium, Mukura take on Kirehe at Huye Stadium, Amagaju play against Bugesera at Nyagisenyi turf, while Police will be hoping to break down Etincelles at Kicukiro Stadium.

On Sunday, APR will be hoping to go top of the league table with a win at Sunrise while Marines will host Miroplast at Umuganda Stadium.

The tie between leaders Rayon Sports and second-placed AS Kigali, who are separated by one point, was postponed to allow the blues to prepare for their CAF Confederations Cup return leg tie against Mozambique’s Costa do Sol.
