New Year’s Day is on January 1st-- the first day on the calendar. Most countries in the world, celebrates New Year’s Day, Rwanda inclusive. This is a day when people remember the past, and hope for wonderful things in the coming year.

Thousands of people usually jam the town streets waiting to countdown the seconds into the New Year at midnight. A display of fireworks usually sparks off the celebrations.

While most of the countries celebrate the New Year’s Day on January 1st, some people in countries like China, Egypt, Israel and Rome celebrate the New Year on different days.
