Yvonne Manzi Makolo on Tuesday assumed office as the new Chief Executive Officer of RwandAir following her appointment to the position last Friday.

Makolo took over from former acting Chief Executive Colonel Chance Ndagano who has held the position for about one year.

The ceremony was witnessed by the Minister of State in charge of Transport, Jean de Dieu Uwihanganye, and the Vice-Chairperson of RwandAir Board of Directors, Patricie Uwase among other members of the Senior Management team.

In his remarks, Ndagano, the outgoing CEO, expressed confidence in his successor saying that from his experience working with her, she is qualified for the position.

"I am very confident that Yvonne, as someone I have been working together with, will carry on from here and make RwandAir a success,” he said.

Prior to her appointment, Makolo was the Deputy CEO for Corporate Affairs at the national carrier.

Ndagano called on board members and senior management of the airline to support the new chief executive.

On her part, Makolo said that she looks forward to working with the airline’s stakeholders in her new position.

"I also appreciate the support of our line Ministry and the Board of Directors and look forward to continuing working with you in this new position,” she said.

She thanked her predecessor, Ndagano, for his role in the airline over the last one year.

Minister Uwihanganye also thanked the outgoing CEO for his contribution and promised the new CEO the Ministry’s full support in her new responsibilities to make RwandAir an airline of ‘‘obvious choice in the market.’’
