The National Women Council-CNF from all the thirteen sectors making up musanze district have agreed to form cooperative societies aimed at engaging in income generating activities.

After a two day general assembly which attracted all the council members from the sectors, the  women showcased the projects they intended to carry out while setting up  the objectives to be considered for the next year’s performance.

Discussing the role of women in economic development and poverty alleviation Hon.Theresa Murekatete said that women should move from the domestic  to the corporate fronts through acquiring loans to do business.

She said that rural women ought to work in groups, while utilizing some of their manual skills to create self-sustaining ventures which could directly benefit them.

After deliberating on  the general assembly resolutions, the representatives of each committee from every sector made presentations touching on the details of the projects they intended to develop.

This included  rearing of pigs, rabbits, chicken and growing of Irish potatoes and  fruits as well as large scale pyrethrum farming.

The NWC resolved to strengthen their capacity by acquiring bank loans, while striving to embrace family planning. The council also resolved to promote education for both boys and girls while fighting gender based violence in all its forms.

The projects were endorsed as forming part of women’s performance contracts and these were signed in the presence of the district mayor Celestin kalabayinga.
