Rwanda’s representatives at next year’s Confederations Cup, APR Fc will resume training next month, January 6, 2009. APR will face Kenya’s Gor Mahia in the preliminarily round of the competition.

In an interview with Times sport, APR’s team manager Capt. Eric Ntazinda revealed that the coaching staff and players who are currently on holiday are expected back in the first week of January.

The nine-time league champions have no intentions of making any reinforcements in the team ahead of the continental event. The club’s head coach Rene Feller said recently that his team has what it takes to do well this season.

"I don’t need new players. I have a lot of experienced players who can do the job. I only hope that poor grounds will not be a hindrance this time,” said Feller.

APR travel to Kenya on the weekend of January 30-February 2 for the first leg against Gor Mahia before playing in the return leg a fortnight later.

Gor Mahia is the only Kenyan club to win an African continental title. The Kenyans won the defunct Cup Winners Cup in 1987.

Their last appearance on the continental scene came in 1996 when they were knocked out in the first round. The winner between APR and Gor Mahia will face Egyptian side Haras El Hodoud who got a bye into the first round.

In 2004 under Coach Jean Marie Ntagwabira, the military side reached the intermediate round of the competition while in 2005; APR reached the second round thus becoming the first local club to reach the second round.

Early this year, APR lost to Zamalek (Egypt) 1-4 in the African Champions League.
