Yesterday AS Kigali 1-2 Mukura VS (3-5 Agg.) Sunrise FC 2-0 Espoir FC (3-2 Agg.) Marines FC 1-0 Pepiniere FC (2-0 Agg.)   Mukura Victory Sports, Sunrise and Marines are through to the last eight of the 2018 Peace Cup.

Mukura beat AS Kigali 2-1 in the second leg of their last 16 fixture at Kigali Stadium last evening.

The Huye-based side qualified after a 5-3 aggregate victory having also won the first leg 3-2 at Huye Stadium on Monday.

Yesterday, forward Jimmy Mbaraga put the City of Kigali sponsored side ahead in the 22nd minute with a powerful header, thanks to a good cross from Janvier Benedata.

However, Mukura returned from the break with new ideas, dominating proceedings with tiki-taka football and it payed off only nine minutes into the half when Ugandan Rachid Mutebi scored in the 59th minute from a wonderful cross from new signing Frank Lomami.

AS Kigali responded with attacking football but it was Mutebi who scored the winner for his ‘yellow-and-black’ side in the 65th minute.

In the other matches, Marines cruised to the last eight with a 2-0 on aggregate win over Pepiniere FC after winning both legs 1-0, while last year’s finalists Espoir were eliminated by Sunrise on 3-2 aggregate score.

It was Espoir who had come into the return leg leading 2-1.

Peace Cup action continues today with APR hosting minnows La Jeunesse at Mumena stadium, with the holders leading 3-0 from the first leg. 

Musanze and Police FC will tussle it out at Kicukiro stadium, the former having won the first leg 2-1, while SC Kiyovu face Bugesera at Nyamata stadium both teams having drawn 1-1 in the first leg.

Second division sides AS Muhanga and Amagaju will also battle it out for a place in the quarterfinals, with Muhanga going into today’s clash leading 2-1 from their first leg.

Meanwhile, Rayon Sports did not play their scheduled game against Etincelles owing to their involvement in CAF Confederation Cup play-offs. The defending league champions will today take on Mozambican side CD Costa Do Sol in the first leg of their fixture at Kigali Stadium today.

Peace Cup quarter-finals will be played in May while semi-final fixtures are scheduled late June with the final due on July 4.

The eventual winners will represent Rwanda in the 2019 CAF Confederation Cup.
