Passengers travelling between Kigali and Brussels will soon have more choice as Brussels airlines announces new flights.

Rwanda Civil Aviation Authority has granted the Brussels airline a 3rd weekly flight between Kigali and Brussels—increasing the airlines’ flights from 2 to 3 weekly.

The additional flight will be offered every Thursday, starting December 20, making it possible for passengers travelling from Rwanda to arrive in Brussels early on Friday morning.

The move comes at the heels several passengers are using Kigali International Airport. Statistics from CAA indicates that the number of travellers has grown by 14 percent—hitting 146,239 mark on average for the last six years.

Serge Dewacher, Brussels airlines country manager—Rwanda said, "There was local demand. we provide a third flight. On average 120 passengers to and from Kigali use our airline in 120 hours.”

Brussels Airlines remains the only European company offering direct flights between the Rwandan and Belgian capitals. The increase comes five years after Brussels airlines launched its direct service between Kigali and Brussels.

Etienne De Nil, Brussels Airlines’ senior vice president sales - Long Haul and African Projects said in a statement, ‘We are pleased that the acquisition of an additional A330 Airbus allows us to increase the number of seats and the frequency of our flights to and from Rwanda.”

Adding, "This will enable us to further improve the punctuality, the quality and the reliability of our flights. The transport of freight will also benefit from this frequency and capacity increase.”

Currently, Brussels Airlines flights leave from the Belgian capital every Tuesday and Saturday in the late morning and arrive in Kigali in the evening. Departure from Kigali is in the evening and arrival in Brussels early in the next morning.

Airline attractive

The free allowance for checked baggage offered on all Brussels Airlines flights to and from Kigali remains very generous: 30kg for the economy class and 40kg for the business class. Frequent flyers enjoy an even bigger baggage allowance.

"People travelling Brussels airlines enjoy compared to other airlines higher luggage allowances”, says Etienne De Nil.

Other scheduled passenger airline operating at Kigali International Airport include; state owned Rwandair Express and Ethiopian airlines.
