Rwanda has agreed with the Republic of Libya to share experience in the field of unity and reconciliation to learn from Rwanda after a war that has destroyed the Arab country.

 

This was after earlier this week the Rwandan Ambassador to Libya with residence in Egypt, Sheikh Saleh Habimana had presented his credentials to Fayez Mustafa al-Sarraj, the Chairman of the Presidential Council of Libya and prime minister of the Government of National Accord of Libya.

 

Ambassador Habimana told The New Times that Fayez Mustafa al-Sarraj promises good relations with President Paul Kagame of Rwanda and current Chairman of the African Union and will support all union programmes, adding that Libya has a lot to learn from Rwanda.

 

"After I had presented my credential I had the opportunity to meet the leadership of the World Islamic Call Society (WICS) which is part of the Civil Society Organisations in Libya and had fruitful discussion with their leader Professor Saleh Salim Al-Fakhri,” Habimana said.

 

He added that he meet the management of Tripoli University lead by Professor Nabil Enattah where they agreed on different working partnerships.

 

"We agreed that Rwanda could be of a good help to unity and reconciliation in Libya as a country that overcame the worst tragedy in the twentieth century; the genocide against the Tutsi,” he said.

 

Habimana also said that they agreed on training of Civil Society Organisations, the media and the academia which will see study tours from Libyans to Rwanda and vice versa.

 

Along this week in Libya, Ambassador Habimana also met with different businessmen and investors, especially the General Manager of Libya Africa Investment Portfolio, Kamel Elgsayer, who agreed to hold a consultative meeting with the Rwandan delegation to renew Libyan investments in Rwanda.

 

The Ambassador also met with Rwandans living, working and studying in Libya where they were reminded of Rwandan values and addressed to him a concern on obtaining nation identification papers.

 

"I promised to them that we will sort out that matter. They also asked me to advocate for them on their rights to follow Rwanda’s programmes abroad like respecting the commemoration week and attend Itorero,” he added.

 

Most of Rwandan students in Libya say they will be forever grateful on how President Kagame rescued them when the war in the Arab country started by bringing them back home and after getting back to school when the country regained peace.
