The Ministry of Sports and Culture (MINISPOC) has confirmed that the search has started for the new head coach of the national football team, Amavubi, to replace Antonio Hey, who dramatically resigned in January.

German trainer, Hey, guided Rwanda to the 2018 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) finals in Morocco, but the team was eliminated in the group stage after losing 1-0 to Libya in the final group match, having taken four points from earlier clashes against Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea.

News of the search for the new head coach was confirmed by Emmanuel Bugingo, the Director of Sports in the Ministry, admitting that, "We have started the process of profiling those interested in the job.”

"Recruiting a national team coach is a process; usually, interested candidates send their CVs, which are assessed and the candidates are profiled. The process has started to make sure we find the right coach,” Bugingo told Times Sport.

He further emphasized that Hey, who had been in charge less than a year before quitting, left the job due to "his personal reasons; maybe he got a better offer somewhere else but the contract was terminated in a professional manner.”

Hey replaced interim coach and former Amavubi player, Jimmy Mulisa. However, Bugingo did not reveal if they have already received any applications.
