Great to read in TNT this Xinhua article. I believe Rwanda is very well positioned with the blessings we have in many rivers and plenty of sun to implement a similar strategy albeit on a smaller scale in transportation (for both buses and cars).
If we build hydro plants on all our small rivers and solar plants all over the country, then we can install electrical vehicles charging stations (powered by renewable energy) all over Rwanda and begin importing electric vehicles.
We will protect our environment and equally reduce our trade deficit. Imagine the national savings when we reduce fuel (petrol, diesel) import.
By the way, the European Union has issued a law/directive to their auto industries where petrol cars will stop being manufactured in 2030. So, if we are not proactive enough, we can expect more dumping of second-hand petrol cars in Africa.
