Technology: Make use of your side mirrors

Just to remind you, a car’s side mirrors are different from the rear-view mirror. Side mirrors are those found on the left and right side of your car. They enable you to have a view of the back-sides of the car, without necessarily turning your head through the car window to see what is behind. They give you the rear quarter look of the car.

In this regard, they are important to your safety especially when planning to overtake another car, turning or even when reversing into a parking spot. However, if not properly adjusted, you could have a misjudgement that could result in an accident.

Therefore, it is important to note that you do not move the mirrors out so far that you have no overlap at all. The downside to this method is that you can not automatically see what is immediately beside and to the rear of your car, which is even more of a problem for vehicles with poor rearward visibility.

To see what is beside you, you need to lean forward and left or right a little, depending on which side you want to see. Overall, though, I find I am much more frequently interested in lane changing safely.

After a vehicle is located in the blind spot, it is recommended to avoid lane changes until the vehicle has passed. Drivers must properly adjust their new blind spot mirror, and become accustomed to using it.

When adjusting, assume your normal driving position behind the wheel. Buckle your seat belt and adjust the seat until you are comfortable. The car should be parked on a flat level surface.
