After two successful runs (March and June 2017), Seka Live Comedy returns to Kigali, this time as a two-day event under the brand Seka Live Festival.
It kicks off today, March 24, with "Comedy on the bus”, where local comedians will get to entertain comedy lovers on buses plying selected town routes.
This will climax into the grand finale on Sunday, March 25, at the Kigali Conference and Exhibition Village (Camp Kigali).
In an effort to demonstrate how far the show has come, organisers went all the way to West Africa (Nigeria) to secure the signature of leading Nigerian funnyman Klint Da Drunk (Afamefuna Klint Igwemba) as the headline act.
Also to crown the closing night is legendary Tanzanian Bongo Flava musician Mr. Nice, who jetted into the country Friday morning.
The festival is organised by Arthur Nation, a local entertainment company founded by local comedian and radio personality Arthur Nkusi, who will also be the host.
Other foreign acts set to grace the Seka Live Festival stage are Uganda’s comedian Patrick Idringi, a.ka Salvado, Eric Omondi and Chipukeezy from Kenya, and German-based Tanzanian comedian Captain Khalid. ]
Also travelling from Tanzania to grace the fest is Idriss Sultan, the 2014 Big Brother Africa winner.
Burundian funnyman Kigingi, a regular on the Kigali comedy scene will also entertain.
In a trend-setting move, comedy lovers will have the chance to see their favorite comedians perform while on moving buses.
Five town routes have been earmarked for Comedy on the Bus, and a total of 25 local comedians will entertain on these buses, five comedians on each route. Each route has designated pick up points from which revelers will board the buses.
"The comedians will also board the buses from different points like any other passenger, and then entertain people on the bus,” said Nkusi, the festival organizer.
Comedy lovers will part with Rwf500 using the Tap and Go card to gain access to the buses.
This segment is reserved strictly for local comedians, including Nkusi. Other comedians to perform on the buses include those from the Comedy Knights, and the seventeen finalists from the Seka Fest comedy auditions that took place at the Galaxy Hotel in Kiyovu last weekend.
