StarTimes National Basketball League defending champions Rwanda Energy Group (REG) will play with a "killer’s instinct” when they host United Generation Basketball (UGB) Friday evening at Amahoro Indoor Stadium.

Victory for Cyril Kalima’s team against struggling UGB will see them leapfrog arch-rivals Patriots at the summit of the table standings for the first time since January. Patriots have a weekend off.

Going into today’s game, all odds are against UGB, who have managed just two wins out of nine league games this season. The youthful side, UGB, will be led by the likes of Mathieu Joseph, Deo Mugarura, Prince Muhizi and Deogratias Amani.

But they will have their work cut out against REG, a side known for showing no mercy to average league opponents. The title holders will be led by Rwanda internationals Kami Kabange, Walter Nkurunziza, Olivier Shyaka, Ali Kazingufu Kubwimana and Bienvenu Ngandu.

Should second-placed REG win they will leapfrog Henry Mwinuke’s Patriots at the helm of the table by one point. Patriots have 17 points.

The league will continue on Saturday with two league games in Huye District, one in the men and another in women’s category.

Third-placed APR, with 15 points, will be up against IPRC-South, who are fourth with 14 points, while the same teams will face-off in the women’s championship.
