The fourth Rwanda Cycling Cup will begin on Saturday, March 24 with the opening race of the local season, the ‘Memorial Lambert Byemayire’, according to the Rwanda Cycling Federation, FERWACY.
FERWACY unveil the roadmap of the s annual cycling championship during in a press briefing held Wednesday afternoon at Classic Hotel in Kicukiro.
Taking place since 2015, Rwanda Cycling Cup attracts all local cycling clubs but is not outlawed to foreign-based Rwandan cyclists.
The ten-month long series of races will start this Saturday and run through to December 15 when winners in both men and women, will be crowned.
Addressing the media, FERWACY boss Aimable Bayingana said, "This year’s edition is special, and is organized in a way that will enable most riders to compete in all races. Rwanda Cycling Cup 2018 has been structured in accordance with the UCI calendar.”
"We expect it to be better organized, more competitive and reach more cycling fans across the country,” he added.
The 4th edition comprise of a total 11 races that will test the cycling power and talent from riders seeking to dethrone reigning champion Patrick Byukusenge in elite men’s category, Yves Nkurunziza in junior men’s category as well as Ingabire Beatha in the women’s category.
