Yet again more Rwandan footballers have vanished in Europe while on international duty with the national team.
It doesn’t seem to get any worse. La Jeunesse pair of Jimmy Habimana ‘Kim’ and Saidi Habimana ‘Nesta’ is reported to have disappeared from the team hotel on the eve of the team’s return to Kigali.
The U-18 team returned home, yesterday afternoon minus the pair from a two-week training trip to Germany, courtesy of the Germany Football Federation, DFB relationship with Ferwafa.
There was no official confirmation of the pair’s disappearance act by press time as Ferwafa’s CEO’s telephone as well as the officials who accompanied the team to Germany were switched off.
It is reported that officials in Germany had employed a 24-hour surveillance on the players but it didn’t deter the pair from accomplishing their mission.
The pair was sharing the same bedroom and is believed that they jumped through the window under the dark of the night.
Rwandan sportsmen and women, not only footballers but other sports have made it a tradition to disappear while in Europe with the national teams.
The U-18 team is being prepared to play in the 2009 U-20 Africa Nations’ Cup which will be staged here in Kigali.
It was the second time this year that the junior side travels to Germany for training sessions. The first time was in April and they spent two weeks there.
But with more disappearing acts, it won’t be long before such tours are scraped for good and major losers would be the players themselves.
