The head wrap is a timeless trend that goes with almost any outfit.  Internet videos show the many ways you can wrap it, to give you the look you want — be it casual, chic or hip. It’s the classic fashion accessory because they deliver unsurpassed versatility.

Head wraps, or scarves, are also an ideal option for women with hair loss and other conditions. Bandanas are equally fashionable.

Yvette Mbabazi, founder of Icyeza, a clothing brand in Kigali, says one can make the head wrap their identity; they can wear it anywhere and anytime. For people with a casual sense of style, this is ideal. You can don a wrap when wearing anything, from dresses to jeans.

However, Mbabazi says one has to be keen on matching the wrap with the outfit. 

Matching depends on one’s preference. You can choose a floral or polka dot wrap to go with an outfit of just one colour. You can also opt for wraps made from African fabric, something Mbabazi says is trending.

"As an African woman, it gives you that identity. It’s just a matter of knowing how to play with colours and designs. Plain head wraps are also good because they give you options when choosing an outfit,” she says.

It doesn’t matter if your hair is short or long, braided or not. Mbabazi says head wraps can work regardless of the hairstyle one has.

Try using more than one head wrap to give it a hip look.

"If your hair is braided, use one head wrap as it gets thicker because of the braids,” she says.

Mbabazi suggests wraps made from cotton, as they are user-friendly.
