Patriots basketball club have retired number 88 jersey in honour of their ex-captain Aristide Mugabe, a seasoned point guard who contributed to five RBL championships before leaving for Kepler basketball in January.

Patriots officially retired Mugabe’s jersey at halftime of their league match against his current club Kepler on Saturday at BK Arena. The game ended 84-56 in favor of Patriots.
It is a colorful gesture witnessed by hundreds of basketball fans as well as former and current teammates of the veteran.

Mugabe is one of the most successful players of his generation, both on club and national team levels. He won five championships during his time at Patriots.

He was also part of the Patriots team that reached the semifinals of the inaugural edition Basketball Africa League (BAL) in 2021. No Rwandan team, aside Patriots, has made it this far at the continental competition.
