Second division league Pool A leaders, Sorwathe FC edged closer to the quarter-finals after defeating Esperance FC 1-0 at the weekend at Mumena ground.
Rulindo district-based Sorwathe FC lead Pool A with 40 points from 16 matches, four points ahead of Pepiniere, who beat Unity SC 2-0.
Striker Emmanuel Niyitegeka was the hero for Sorwathe, scoring the lone goal of the match in the 58th minute and after the match head coach Comrade Banamwana said, "We will continue looking for more points and to stay top of the table.”
"Our major target this season is promotion to topflight league, that’s why we can’t afford any mistakes, the players know that,” Banamwana noted.
Rwamagana City stayed in third place with 27 after losing Etoile de l’est 1-0, Unity SC, who were beaten 2-0 by Pepiniere complete the top four with 26 points.
OElsewhere in Pool B; Intare FC maintained their grip on top spot after beating La Jeunesse 4-0 at Mumena ground on Sunday. Intare lead table with 36 points, while AS Muhanga, who overcame SEC Academy 8-0 at Stade Muhanda, are in second place with 28 points.
