The Anglican Church in Rwanda, yesterday, unveiled a new cathedral, worth Rwf300 million, in Gasabo District, Kigali city.

Speaking during the ceremony in Kibagabaga Sector, Archbishop Onesphore Rwaje said: "I officially declare that the church of Kibagabaga Parish of Anglican Church in Rwanda is officially inaugurated as the Cathedral of Gasabo Diocese. It is named ‘Holy Trinity Cathedral.”

Seven years had elapsed without an Anglican church in Kibagabaga and the Archbishop will become its new bishop.

Dr Laurent Mbanda, the Archbishop-elect will also serve as Bishop of the Diocese, of Gasabo which is one of the11 Anglican dioceses in the country.

The newly elected Archbishop Mbanda will be enthroned on June 10 this year.

Archbishop Rwaje said the church will host over 1,000 Christians.

He said the engineers will soon set up sound proofs to comply with building standards and guidelines, adding that the achievement is a milestone that was made possible because of the significant contribution from the Christians

"We thank every Christian who contributed to the construction of the cathedral, we initially had planned for Rwf250 million budget for the construction but it will exceed Rwf300 million as we add more features,” Samuel Kayitare, the leader of Kibagabaga parish said.

Emma Mutsinzi, the representative of, Christians said they continue to commit themselves to contribute to the development of the Anglican Church.

"There was a small church here. Each Christian contributed depending on their capacity so that we get a church. We also do in support of vulnerable Christians, and those who face tragedies,” she said.
