GATUNA — Movement of passengers entering and exiting through Gatuna border to attend Christmas and New Year celebrations has drastically increased for the last three weeks, as revealed by Gatuna border immigration officials.

According to the officer in-charge of Gicumbi district immigration services Ruterana Venant, Gatuna border has previously been receiving an average of 600 to 800 passengers entering Rwanda per day and between 800 to 900 passengers exiting the country.

‘Now the number of those entering has swollen to over 1,200 passengers while those exiting are estimated at 900 to 1,000 passengers per day”, said Ruterana.

Passengers interviewed by The New Times said Christmas and New Year celebrations mean a lot to them for those who shared relatives or families located in either Rwanda or Uganda.

‘Yes this is a special time for me to share with family members across the border’, said a Ugandan business lady who was traveling to Kampala through Gatuna border.
