The first edition of Ndi Igisigo cultural event took place in August last year, at the Feel At Home Bar and Resto in Remera.

Now the event that features a cocktail of traditional poetry, dance and music performances is back. The second edition will take place on March 10, at the Root House in Kacyiru.

Ndi Igisigo means "I’m a poem.” It is the brainchild of budding local poet Olivier Tuyisenge, a regular at local poetry gatherings such as Spoken Word Rwanda and Kigali Vibrates with Poetry.

The inaugural event featured performances from inanga musician Deo Munyakazi, poetess Carine Maniraguha, Ikome group, Pascal Solo and American singer Rachel Sklar, among others.

"Ndi Igisigo is a cultural event based mainly on poetry. The event mixes poetry, dance, and traditional music and visual arts (live painting sessions). Its aim is to promote Rwandan culture among young artistes, especially poetry and also to bring different art forms to share the same stage including poetry, dance and music,” explained Tuyisenge, the founder and organiser.

The second edition will feature some of the acts that featured in the first show; Deo Munyakazi, Fredinand Munezero –a poet, singer, inanga player and Carine Maniraguha, a poetess and actor in the TV serie –Seburikoko.

Other acts that will grace the stage are Inzora, Sengabo Jodas, American contemporary dancer Nina Ruth Harris.

"We want to make the second edition more traditional by introducing more traditional instruments like the Ikondera. All the artistes are also ready to make the necessary innovations in their performance,” Tuyisenge explained, adding, "I plan to make Ndi Igisigo a trimester event (happening every three months) in the way to create new space to find poetry, traditional dance and music constantly.”

Entrance to the event is Rwf3,000.
