On Saturday, Little Flowers School hosted a belated International Women’s Day event that included humanitarian activities aimed at helping vulnerable women.

Even though the world celebrates Women’s Day on March 8, the school decided to celebrate it on the 10th to engage with vulnerable women through sports and charity.

The event, held at the school’s premises in Muhima, Kigali, brought together parents, educationists, and women, among others.

"We provided sanitary pads, clothes, shoes, soap, and many essential items that they can’t afford. We worked with the local government authorities in various sectors surrounding the school. The women are parents with children at the school, however, we helped the most underprivileged,” said Grace Milcah Aziz, founder of the ‘Sisters of Charity’, an international non-profit organisation dedicated to helping vulnerable people, that partnered with the school.

Bernadette Nimugire, a parent at Little Flowers, said over 100 vulnerable women were helped, and applauded the initiative for celebrating the day by helping others.

Francine Mukankubana, one of the beneficiaries, was a sex worker for four years. She thanked the school and organisation for the help and urged the community to do more to help other women still trapped in the vice.

 "We used to take drugs and engage in illegal activities. Fortunately, Sisters of Charity took us in and we are leading a better life,” she said.
