SC Kiyovu head coach Andre Casa Mbungo has called on his players to show consistency heading into the second half of the Azam Rwanda Premier League season.

Kiyovu returned to the top of the table standings after defeating Amagaju FC 2-0 at Mumena stadium on Sunday. Djuma Nizeyimana scored the opening goal in 45+2 minutes and striker Placide Aime Uwineza added the second deep into stoppage time.

Victory took Mbungo’s team to 28 points from 15 matches, one point ahead of Rayon Sports, who won 2-0 against Marines FC at Kigali Stadium—however; the defending champions have played one game less against Sunrise FC which will be played on March 26.

Burundi international Pierrot Kwizera put Rayon Sports ahead in the 64th minute and Rwanda’s Kevin Muhire added the second in the 71st minute.

The Mumena-based SC Kiyovu were relegated to the second tier last season but were handed a second chance after promoted Isonga FC withdrew from competing in the topflight league.

"We’re happy to get three important points against Amagaju. It is a deserved victory because they played well and created several scoring chances—overall my players did a great job today,” Mbungo said after his team’s 8th win in 15 league matches played so far in this campaign.

Former AS Kigali and Police FC coach noted that, "We missed some players like Ally Mbogo, who was suspended for this match and I am glad that others came in and did the job perfectly. But we also have to keep in mind that only consistency will help us achieve our goals for the season”.

Amagaju FC coach, Pabro Nduwimana admitted that, "We came here with a clear plan to win the game but it was difficult to execute it properly against a strong Kiyovu team. We are going to work and improve in areas that we’re still struggling.”

Amagaju remain 14th in the table with 13 points, one ahead of Miroplast FC, who are second from bottom, while Gicumbi FC occupy the last position with 11 points but also have a game in hand.

Innocent Seninga’s Police FC saw their title hopes fade further following a 1-0 defeat against Kirehe at Nyakarambi ground. It was the second successive defeat for Police, who also lost to Bugesera FC last week.

Sunrise FC cemented fourth place with 25 points following a 2-1 away victory against Miroplast FC Mironko grounds.
