APR go full force for league title after Peace Cup exit

APR FC are set to go full force in their league title hunt after suffering elimination from the Peace Cup at the hands of Gasogi last week.

In a media interview, the team’s head coach Thierry Froger admitted that the league trophy is their only hope, noting that they must do their best to stay in the title race.

"APR is a big team that must win trophies every season. That is why we must give our best and try to win every game ahead of us to remain in the title race,” he said.

APR FC are currently leading the league table with 49 points, seven ahead of second-placed Rayon Sports.

"The league is a very important competition for APR. I always tell the players that APR is a team for winning trophies,” Froger said.

The team will return to the field on March 8 against rivals Rayon Sports before facing Etoile de l’Est in the subsequent game.

At the start of the season, APR were in competing for five different trophies including the Super Cup, CAF Champions League, Mapinduzi Cup, the local league, and the Peace Cup. They were eliminated from all and now their only hope for silverware is in the league.

"The players are ready for every game ahead of them. We have to be at our best level in every game ahead us. The good thing is that everyone in the club is showing the will to win,” Froger said.

The last time APR won the Peace Cup was in 2017.
