The reigning Miss Kigali, Cynthia Akazuba, yesterday joined children of Nkundabana orphanage home in Gaculiro, Gasabo District to celebrate Christmas.

While serving them food and drinks, Akazuba thanked the management of the orphanage for inculcating the culture of discipline in the young children who were previously roaming the streets of Kigali.

"I would also like to urge you to go back and encourage other street children whom you left behind to come and join such orphanages so that in future you all become responsible citizens of our country,” she challenged the children.

According to Jason Rugero, the Director of the orphanage, such occasions help the orphans to recognise that other people care for them.

"Christmas is a time for sharing and caring so we are very happy that Miss Kigali and her team have taken time to come and party with the children,” he added.

This is the second time that Akazuba has visited the Nkundabana orphanage. Last month the children accompanied by the beauty queen planted 2,000 trees in Kinyinya, a Kigali suburb during the tree planting week that started November 24 and ended on the 30th.

"In this home we are happy because we get to celebrate Christmas just like the other children with parents, I hope other children leave the streets too,” Jack Dushimimana, one of the orphans said as he smiled with Akazuba.

He thanked Miss Kigali for the gesture and urged the government to convince all unprivileged orphans to join such homes so that they can enjoy life normally instead of roaming the streets.
