10 female students who excelled in last year’s secondary leaving examinations and those under Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) were awarded with laptops by Imbuto Foundation.
This was during the International Women’s Day (IWD) event that took place in Shyogwe Sector, Muhanga District.
The award marked the launch of the 13th Promotion of Girls’ Education Campaign that is being held under the theme: Ba Inkubito z’Icyeza n’Ishema ry’abakobwa.
The best performers—who were selected from Kigali City and Eastern Province—include six from TVET and four who were the best in secondary schools.
This brings the number of schoolgirls who have been awarded by Imbuto to over 4600 since 2005.
In an effort to promote girls’ education, the First Lady, Jeannette Kagame, through Imbuto Foundation, awards various prizes to the best performing primary and secondary school girls in the country every year.
The campaign rewards the Best Performing Girls (BPGs) in different school cycles from around the nation.
Under PGB campaign, Imbuto foundation plans to award several other star performers this month from Primary Six, O-Level and A-Level across the country.
The awards include scholastic materials, ICT training and essential funds for them to create savings accounts. The Senior 6 BPGs are rewarded with a laptop and IT training.
The purpose of the training is to equip the girls with basic IT skills, and ease their transition to tertiary education.
The awarding ceremony was attended by among others, the Minister of Gender and Family Promotion, Esperance Nyirasafari, Minister of State in charge of TVET Olivier Rwamukwaya, the Governor of Southern Province, as well as the Director General of Imbuto Foundation, Sandrine Umutoni.
