Local Sports physicians have called for more training courses to improve capacity. This was revealed after conclusion of a five-day course this week at Amahoro National Stadium.

The course, which was attended by physicians from the top football clubs like APR, Rayon Sports as well as the national team, was part of the partnership between the Rwanda National Olympic and Sport Committee (RNOSC) and the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

Rayon Sports’ Charles Mugemana, one of the 40 participants said that, "This training will go a long way in equipping us with more skills and knowledge regarding our daily work as team doctors.”

"However, after this training, we hope we shall have more of such courses even at the international level. We also pray that federations and local clubs value the work of the physicians,” Mugemana added.

Patrick Rutamu, the national team physician, urged local sports clubs and federations to hire well-trained physicians.

Meanwhile, according to the head of the Medical Committee at RNOSC, Bosco Mpatswenumugabo, all the participants were required to present their qualifications before undergoing the training.

The five-day course was the first of its kind to be organized in Rwanda for the local sports physicians.

Other participants were Emmanuel Sibomana from Rwanda Energy Group (REG) Volleyball Club and national Volleyball team, Jacques Buhigiro and Amavubi’s Moussa Hakizimana.
