AS Kigali head coach Eric Nshimiyimana has said that his team were ‘unlucky’ following the 2-2 draw against Police FC on Tuesday, which denied them a chance to leapfrog SC Kiyovu at the top of Azam Rwanda Premier League table.

AS Kigali remained in second place with 22 points, two behind pace-setters SC Kiyovu, who were held to a goalless draw by Kirehe FC in Nyakarambi.

Meanwhile, Police FC moved above Rayon Sports into fourth place with 19 points, one ahead of the defending champions, who take on 13th-placed Gicumbi FC at Stade de Gicumbi on Thursday.

AS Kigali had chance to go top of the table, while Police also came into the game knowing that victory would take them up to second position after 12 rounds of matches.

"We have been very unlucky in this particular game; we dominated and created several scoring opportunities but failed to use them. We shall take the draw and prepare better for the next matches," Nshimiyimana said after the match.

The former Isonga and APR coach added that, " I promise we will be a much stronger team in next fixtures. We dominated the game and we created more than five good chances but failed to score, so for me we are unlucky against Police."

Frank Kalanda and Hamidu Ndayisaba scored for AS Kigali while Isaie Songa and Mirafa Nizeyimana ensured Police earned a point from the match and maintained their excellent record against the City of Kigali side.

Innocent Seninga’s team opened the scoring through Songa in the 45+1 minute before Mbaraga equalized for the visitors in the 48th minute.

Burundi international Fuadi Ndayisenga set up the ball for Hamidu Ndayisaba, who restored AS Kigali’s lead in the 64th minute but Nizeyimana levelled the score in the 78th minute.

After the game, Seninga said: "I’m particularly happy with my players’ discipline and their work ethic throughout the match to come back from 2-1 to make it 2-2.”

"It is sad we did not earn all points because we played well but a draw is not very bad. However, we have to move on, we are looking ahead already, and we have more matches to play,” he added.
