At 22, Elysee Mpano, a vocalist, songwriter, pianist, and music producer is gaining ground in the gospel music industry; he records for gospel music artistes and his own music career is taking flight.
Working with renowned artistes like Chorale de Kigali, Ambassadors of Christ, and Papi Clever, Mpano is quickly becoming a sought-after producer and pianist in the gospel music scene.

As a music instructor, specialised in piano skills, Mpano shares his expertise with learners of all ages, a passion he developed after recognising his own talent. "At times, individuals come to my studio, or I visit their locations,” he explained.
The third of four siblings, Mpano’s musical journey started with early exposure. He began singing in a children’s choir in Musanze during his younger days. Subsequently, in high school, a friend acquainted him with the basics of piano playing, initiating his present course. He officially launched his music career in 2021.
Mpano said his vocal prowess might have been inherited from his mother, who, despite not being part of any musical group, has a deep love for music and often sings while working at home.
His musical journey advanced significantly in high school as he learned to play the piano, enabling him to uncover his talent by recognising the unique sound of every note.

He has collaborated with several prominent figures in the Rwandan music industry, as well as choirs and musical bands, all of whom acknowledged his talent. Mpano actively participated in various projects, including Papi Clever’s ‘Tembeya Nami’ and ‘Imekuona’, along with other released songs, such as ‘Because He Lives’, ‘He Hideth My Soul’, and ‘Precious Memory’.
Mpano emphasised his valuable partnerships with people like Bosco Nsuti, Alexis Dusabe, Elie Bahati, and others, as well as the Drubs Band. He also collaborated with choirs, particularly Ambassadors of Christ starting from April 2023. He contributed to works like ‘Baho’, a soothing song dedicated to those who lost their loved ones during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, and ‘Anyitaho’, a church hymn.
"I have crafted over 50 songs for various individuals and choirs, including collaborations with Clarion Call Ministry, Ulim Singers, and my personal projects. One notable collaboration with Elie Bahati is set to be released soon,” Mpano said.
"However, I encounter challenges due to the absence of a standardised music genre; it constantly evolves. Choosing a genre that appeals to the majority and stands the test of time poses a significant dilemma,” he added.
Mpano has currently released three songs that include ‘Ese urankunda’ and ‘Ihembe’ with Rachel Mbanzabigwi, an emerging gospel artiste.

"I aim for my music to be a masterpiece, touching souls, fostering deliverance, encouraging prayer, and bringing people closer to God. Ultimately, I strive to represent Rwanda on the global stage in the domain of gospel music.”
