The list of nominees for the 4th edition of the annual Mashariki African Film Festival is out.
This year’s edition runs between March 25 and March 31 at the Kigali Conference and Exhibition Village (Camp Kigali).
The theme for this year is; "Value, Image and Identity.”
Aside from the main venue, the festival will also take film goers around Kigali, with screenings at the Century Cinema, Impact Hub (The Office), Cine Star, Maidon des Jeunes in Kimisagara, and the Goethe Institut.
Film entries at this year’s competition have been classified under two main categories; Competition and Panorama.
According to Tresor Senga, the festival founder and president, the festival is an annual cultural gathering that aims at bringing a wide selection of African films to an African audience.
"Mashariki African Film Festival consists of film screenings and rewarding Rwandan and African Filmmakers and empowering them through trainings offered by local and International specialized professionals. The festival promotes, advocates for and collaborates with other cultural events in different member states of the East African community,” he added.
Films under the Competition category will further be grouped under five sub-categories;
Rwandan Short Films, East African Short Films, African Short Fictions, African Documentaries, and African Feature Films.
The Panorama category features films from across the globe but with an Afrocentric storyline.
