Police in Rutsiro District are holding one man accused of impersonating the president of the Primary Court of Ruhango, Rutsiro in an attempt to defraud a person who had filed a case in court.

The suspect was detained this week in Nkomero sector after his alleged victim, Theogene Hakuzimana, alerted judicial officials.

The suspect had duped the victim that on February 13 his case would be tried if he paid a bribe of Rwf100,000.

But when the victim alerted court, officials also alerted police and the suspect was later caught red-handed.

Judiciary spokesperson Harrison Mutabazi said impersonation cases are common in the judiciary and people have to be vigilant.

"People have to be aware of such fraudsters and report them immediately. Some claim to be senior judiciary officials, others claim to be bailiffs or other relevant.”
